«Places of relaxation»: popular culture in beliefs and practices of urban elite in the sixteenth century Netherlands

Abstract
In paper interactions between popular and learned culture are analyzed, in particular the role of popular in beliefs and practices of the sixteenth century netherlandish elite. The cases of participating urban patricians in creating of popular were found out, as well as their attempts to recreate some elements of popular culture in their everyday life. Popular culture was defined as a «place of relaxation» in the beliefs of elite.
